The Arab-Israeli War of 1948, sparked by the end of the British Mandate for Palestine and the Israeli Declaration of Independence, led to intense combat between Israel and Arab states. Armistice agreements were signed in 1949, leaving Israel with more territory than initially proposed.

In 1967, the Six-Day War marked a significant shift in the Middle East's geopolitical landscape, with Israel gaining control of the Gaza Strip, Sinai Peninsula, West Bank, and Golan Heights. This led to a rise in Palestinian refugees and paved the way for future conflicts and the ongoing dispute between Israel and Palestine over the region. The war also set the stage for the eventual Gaza blockade by Hamas.

On December 9th, 1927, the First Intifada, or Stone Intifada, began with a tragic collision involving an Israeli truck and a Palestinian vehicle, resulting in widespread protests and riots. The uprising led to the Madrid Conference and the Oslo I Accord, establishing the Palestinian National Authority and initiating a peace process to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The Oslo I Accord, signed in September 1993, aimed to establish a peace process between Israel and Palestine. However, decades-old complexities and hostilities led to the Palestinian Authority's birth. Challenges such as final borders, security concerns, and Jerusalem's status continue to smoulder into the 21st century.

Hamas, a political organization, won the Palestinian legislative elections in 2006 and took control of the Gaza Strip. Despite international outcry and a blockade imposed by Israel and Egypt, Hamas persists, causing a humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Despite these challenges, Hamas continues to provide social services and maintain military capabilities.
